    Customers generosity clinches fundraising cup

We are delighted to have collected the cup for the Carnival fundraising cup for the fourth year in a row, thanks to the generosity of all our lovely customers.

Funds are raised by donations made into a special flaming tar barrel on the bar counter. This year, the total raised was an amazing £4,049.19.

The winning total raised at the Volunteer two years ago was just over £1,000 and last year was around £2,500, so this latest figure is an incredible testament to the generosity of our customers.

Landlord and landlady Mike and Jacqui  would like to thank everyone who has dug deep to help keep the barrels rolling.

    November 5th 2016 – Flaming Tar Barrels

The highlight of the calendar in Ottery St Mary! The Flaming Tar Barrels is like nothing else – where mad folk (including some of our own!) carry lit tar barrels on their backs around the streets of Ottery St Mary.

Warning Flaming tar barrelsIf you’re coming to the spectacle, arrive early as the centre is closed after 5pm – you won’t be able to get in. Parking is available at five different locations for £10 a car, please find out more on the Tar Barrels website here. Some car parks are closer than others, so be prepared to walk.

The streets get very busy, and you may well end up close to a tar barrel so keep your head and be sensible. As this Tar Barrels lands on a Saturday night, we’re anticipating the town will be busier than ever.

The Volunteer closes at 4pm, after which entrance is by pre-purchased ticket only.

Whatever you have planned for your evening, have a great time and be safe out there!
