  1. We’re In! Good Beer Guide 2019

The Volunteer is thrilled to once again feature in CAMRA‘s Good Beer Guide for 2019.

Regulars will know that we are dedicated to offering great choices to real ale lovers; from local brewers Otter Brewery to Cornish giants St Austell Brewery.

Exmoor Ales, Exeter Brewery, Salcombe Brewery, Hanlons Brewery, Bays Brewery and Branscombe Vale Brewery have all featured at the bar. For our weekly guest beers, visit our Specials page.

We’re delighted that the London has also been included in the Guide; it’s unusual for two pubs from a small town to make it into the book, so well done to Ottery St Mary once again!

Thanks to everyone who enjoys a pint at the Volley – cheers.

We hope all our beer fans are enjoying the Small Batch Brews from St Austell Brewery.

We are now serving up the beers for Season 1 this year.

Three beers will be popping up at the Volly:

Small Batch Brew Hop in the DockHop in the Dock: brewed by Adam Lumb. An English ale, amber in colour, brewed 50/50 from two classic malts – Maris Otter Pale and Cornish Gold. Flavours of cherry, pine, vanilla and peach, we’re told!

Small Batch Brew Divine InspirationDivine Inspiration: a collaboration between the Bath Ales and St Austell brewing teams. A session pale ale to challenge your taste buds, brewed using Columbus, Chinook, Rakau and 7270 hops to give fruit and pine flavours.

Small Batch Brew The Fifth AmendmentThe Fifth Amendment; brewed by Bryan Day, this is a distinct amber-coloured American style ale using Maris Otter, Crystal and Oat malts combined with American hops and yeast. Tastes of malt biscuit and blackcurrant lead through to orange, citrus and tropical fruits.

Enjoy the new season and let us know what you think of the latest batch!

We’re very excited to be offering St Austell Brewery’s Small Batch Brews at the Volley. The first beer on offer is Cashmere, a Super Pale Ale which is the colour of straw, smells a bit like pineapple and bubblegum, and has the flavours of grapefruit, lemon zest and melon. Well, that’s what they tell us, but why not give it a try and see what you think.

The microbrewery delivers up to 3,000 pints at any one time and allows the brewery’s team of highly skilled and innovative brewers to experiment with new flavours and new beer styles.

The Small Batch Brewery will be producing a wide range of beers, from Belgian beer to Eden Project-inspired pints, offering a range of new and interesting brews, delivering more choice for beer lovers.

There are well over 100 varieties of hops to choose from worldwide all offering different flavours and you lucky Volunteer customers will get to try them all!
